My Heart Soars (Like these Dogs of Agility)

Possibly my last Woofstock post for 2007…

First, many thousands of thanks to Durham Parks and Recreation for their work in creating a great event like this, which is already in the works for next year’s Fifth Annual Woofstock.

Many thousands of thanks and love to each of the agencies, filmed by us for this blog or not, because you each work tirelessly to save precious animals who without you would suffer, but instead are blessed with new, loving homes.

….On a VERY heart-bursting-with-joy-at-this-news note, Douglas has a forever home thanks to NC Schnauzer Rescue and their event this past weekend of Schnoctoberfest!  Truly, every single day since Woofstock, I have looked at a photo of Douglas and wished I could take him in.  I have prayed for Douglas in that he would find his love and “forever home” and that in doing so, every suffering animal out there may receive this fate as well.  After a long search, Douglas is loved.  This is what Woofstock is about.  Watch the Schnauzer Rescue video on the link to the right if you need a reminder of Douglas’ story…

Lastly, two final videos.  We tried to get a couple PDF and DOC files uploaded as well, but to no avail.  Must learn more about WordPress functions.  :(  Until then, enjoy these two videos: 40 Dogs in (Less Than) 4 Minutes and GAMEDAY! ~ which is ALL games and agility!  I JUST recovered these clips that Beth from DPR recorded… many apologies for the delays.

Enjoy!

Woofstock the Movie!

September 28, 2007

……drumroll please……

It’s *****FINALLY***** here!!! Thank you to Beth T. of Durham Parks and Rec for being a Rockstar with the camera and an Angel with her patience as we got this working!

We’re *hoping* this pleases you, Beth… We tried to make your vision happen, and though I’m sure it isn’t perfectly what you had it mind, hopefully it works! Let me know if you want some adjustments made, and I’ll work on it (I know how to do it quicker now!)~

Not up, but not forgotten

September 27, 2007

So I was blessed this week to meet with our community camera woman, Beth of Durham Parks and Recreation, to get the clips for “Woofstock 2007: the Movie” and to get the footage for AnimalKind…  time ran off, however, and here it is Thursday, and we’re just getting the videos cleaned up for the site.

But alas, in the next 48 hours (barring an e-bomb), both gorgeous videos should be up for your entertainment pleasure, not to mention I am working on getting our news footage from the day on the blog as well, plus a little help for a few pups in needs!!!  All coming, and finished this weekend!!  If you have ANY questions or comments, we love to hear them!  Drop me a shout at aallen@wncn.com.

animal lovers unite! find the agency for you!

September 23, 2007

Many great agencies showed up to Woofstock 2007 (and hopefully even more next year)!

Watch this video for a wind-up of (a few of) the amazing people and animals that make up these organizations… then click on the the links on the right in order to watch the full conversations with each of them.  Enjoy!

BTW, I had a great conversation with Beth Livingstone of AnimalKind about their The $20 Fix, a great way you can be part of the solution.  Technical difficulties, however, prevented me from getting that up yet.  Give me until Tuesday night…. thanks!

For the first time dog owner…

I have not grown up with pets around the house.  When my family found Kiko close to their neighborhood I got my first taste of having a puppy to take care of.  She was abandoned and nobody claimed her.  We are not sure what kind of dog Kiko will turn out to be, the vet told us she is a mix of breeds.  She is around three or four months old, and she is a handful.  We are still working on house-breaking her.

There are a lot of different books and theories to help with training a dog, but I thought it would be a good idea to ask people who are always around dogs to share their best practices as dog owners.  Being at Woofstock was a great opportunity to talk to rescue groups and dog lovers to get their input.

Check out my video log below to see what suggestions they had, and feel free to contribute any other suggestions you may have for first time or future dog owners.  (Especially house-breaking tips ;))

sooooo much more to come…

I just wanted to drop a quick note to let you know so much more is going to happen on these pages over the next two days.  Courtney and I both have been stuggling (just a little) in getting our visual technology working smoothly quickly.

We will, however, post considerably more videos and photos from Woofstock 2007 between tonight, tomorrow and Tuesday.  And if you have any of your own, post them yourself.  If any glitches occur, shoot me an email at aallen@wncn.com and I will gladly help you out.

Thank you for checking in frequently as we get all of our (and your) favorite memories up!  Woof!

First Time or Tradition?

I’ll admit, I was a “first-timer” but I definitely plan to make it a tradition as do several of the folks I talked to yesterday at Durham Parks & Rec’s 4th Annual WOOFSTOCK.  As a matter of fact, I believe every pet owner I spoke with definitely said they would be back next year.

What attracts folks to the event?  Well, between the agility demonstrations, various competitions, opportunities to adopt a dog, being able to talk to several community groups and organizations about responsible dog/pet ownership, to just having an opportunity to socialize their pets, some of these pet owners look forward to this event every year while others do plan to make it a tradition.

I really enjoyed my Woofstock experience and I will definitely be back next year.  Maybe I’ll even bring my own doggie, Miss Lucy.

Until next time, please enjoy this short video of my day at Woofstock 2007.

Woofstock Random Moments

September 22, 2007

by Ashley Sue…

Tails wagging, a tremendous attempt to control the excitement so not to jump ahead at that dog biscuit ~ or worse yet, miss the biscuit altogether as it hurls through the air… the collective gasp as a dog almost sits ~ in a competition where almost is not enough…

These are two moments I caught in random moments in my day at the Fourth Annual Woofstock by Durham Parks and Rec

The weather was about 5 or 10 degrees warmer than ideal, but hey, it wasn’t 100 degrees like it was for (what felt like) weeks on end.  The skies stayed blue and the dogs (more…)

Why I love my Pet!

Today I had the chance to talk with attendees at Woofstock and find out what their dogs mean to them. Many of these dogs were rescued dog and have brought a lot of happiness and joy to their owners lives. Check out my video and see why people love their pets! Thanks again to the Durham Parks and Rec Department and the APS.

A Woofstock Preview!

It was a bright and beautiful afternoon this afternoon at Durham’s Northgate park where I had the opportunity to participate in my first ever Woofstock experience.  I got some fabulous footage on my video camera and can’t wait to share it with you!  I’m producing my piece over the next 24 hours and it will be up by Sunday night.  In the meantime, here’s a sneak peak of what’s to come…..WOOF
