Storms & Hail Hit Fort Bragg, North Carolina

Thursday afternoon and evening brought a cold front to North Carolina, but it also brought severe weather.
Numerous severe thunderstorm warnings were issued Thursday afternoon along with a severe thunderstorm watch.  The warnings were issued due to damaging winds around 60 miles per hour and small to medium sized hail.
Marty Schoonmaker snapped some great pictures of [...]

Track Carolina Storms On Your Phone

Do you like to check the forecast as soon as you get up in the morning or right before you go to bed?  Well, that’s the way my day usually works too, but I typically don’t spend the entire day in front of the radar.  But thanks to your cell phone, blackberry or PDA no [...]

Tropical Depression Three Forming?

From the National Hurricane Center…
Satellite images and surface reports indicate that the area of low pressure off the Georgia coast is becoming better defined and a tropical depression is forming.

If present trends continue, advisories on a tropical depression will be initiated at 11 pm this evening.  All interests along the North Carolina coast should monitor [...]

Weather May Cause More Kidney Stones

Over the years I’ve heard people blame the weather for a lot of different things, but this one sounds a little far fetched (at first).  The weather has rained out parties and weddings; killed many a plant from a late spring freeze and even increased gang activity due to warm weather…but this latest headline is [...]

The video was captured from Harnett and Johnston counties on the night of Tuesday, July 8, 2008.

To start…here is what Precision Vipir looked like right about the time all the pictures were taken.

The first [...]

I’d like to share with you a viewer e-mail we received last night after a tornado warning was issued for Lee and Harnett counties.  As usual, when there is a tornado warning, we interrupt [...]

Bertha Strengthens, Weakens, Misses Carolina

Our first hurricane of the 2008 Atlantic season has gone through quite a few intensity and directional changes the past few days.  But at the end of it all, it looks like Bertha will bother Bermuda, a few ships and some fish…and not the East Coast.
Over the holiday weekend things got a little interesting with [...]

Back From Vacation; Landing In This?!

After being off work and out of town last week, I was ready to come home to North Carolina Sunday…or at least I thought I was.  The World spent half the week in Houston, Texas and the other half in Denver, Colorado at the American Meteorological Society’s Broadcast Conference…and it was a little weather that [...]

Raleigh Heat Produces Fire In The Sky

Have you ever seen a Fire Rainbow?  In addition to all the record breaking heat we had in the Triangle last week, we also had a Fire Rainbow.  Most rainbows form after or during rain, when the sun peeks through a little, the sun hits the rain drops and refracts light to make the colors [...]
