Mangos For A Month

Does your favorite fruit have an entire month dedicated to it?  The National Mango Board (yes, there is one of those) dropped me a few mango’s this week to remind me that June is Mango Month.

mango2.jpgJust in case you are confused, I am not talking about Chris Kattan’s character, Mango, from Saturday Night Live.  I’m also not talking about mangos in the sense that the Seinfeld characters did during season five.

I’m talking about Mango, the fruit.  Even though June is full of dates like the last day of school, Flag Day, my wife’s birthday, the Summer Solstice, Father’s Day and Donald Duck’s birthday (why doesn’t he wear pants!)…when it comes to fruit, June is all theirs.

Mangos don’t grow too well here in the United States because they need a pretty good tropical climate, so most Mango trees in the world are around the equator.   While Florida, California and Hawaii do grow some Mangos, most are grown in Mexico.  There are absolutely zero Mango trees in North Carolina.

But, back to my mangos…I had all intentions of using my mangos in some Martha Stewart-type recipe for dinner…but at the end of the day, I just cut the thing open and enjoyed it raw.  So, go enjoy your mango the rest of this month and the rest of the summer!
