Wrong Roof At RDU Delays Terminal Opening

For the last few years, we’ve all watched the progress of Terminal 2 at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Also, for the last few years we have all looked forward to the opening of Terminal 2 in the summer of 2008. Well, after traveling this past weekend and spending some time talking to airport employees, The World has learned that roof issues have delayed the opening of the new terminal until September 2008 and maybe beyond.

Now, let’s clarify roof issues. From what I was told, construction crews installed the WRONG ROOF and had to do it over, which is the main reason for the delays. Now, technically, parts of September are indeed in summer, but upon further review, the airport’s website is now saying the new terminal will open in the FALL of 2008, despite what this banner in airport says.

When the terminal is finally finished, we will have plenty of new stores and restaurants to visit when flying. McDonald’s, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Jason’s Deli, 42nd Street Oyster Bar and Carolina Ale House are just a few of the restaurants. Stores include University Kids, PGA Tour Shop, Anders Soap and 2nd Ed. Booksellers.

And by the way…when the new terminal is finished, they are changing the names of all the terminals. So, now, instead of terminals A, B & C…we will have terminals 1 & 2. Read more about all the changes to Raleigh-Durham International Airport here.
