Dale Earnhardt’s Number 3 Car & Childress In Raleigh

What are Richard Childress and Roy Williams doing having dinner together?  Both are getting inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in Raleigh tonight.

Roy Williams has won a few basketball games for Kansas and the University of North Carolina in his day.  Richard Childress drove a few NASCAR races before becoming even more famous and successful as an owner.  As an owner he put Dale Earnhardt behind the wheel of his #3 car and they won a lot of races.

Apparently, Richard Childress drove the #3 car up from Davidson County, North Carolina and left it out front during the ceremony.  NBC17’s Chad Sokol snapped this picture while reporting live at the North Raleigh Hilton, where the induction is being held.  From the looks of it, while the #3 car can rub with the best of them…it doesn’t like the rain!

If you are interested in going to the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, it’s located in downtown Raleigh inside the North Carolina Museum of History.  That’s between the Capitol and the Legislative Building, at 5 East Edenton Street.  The main entrance faces Bicentennial Plaza pedestrian mall linking Jones and Edenton Streets.
