$9 Digital TV Converter Box
After waiting two months, my $40 digital TV vouchers from the government arrived in the mail yesterday. For the 433,000 North Carolina households the digital conversion will affect, I have found a way to make the switch for only $9!
Starting February 17, 2009 all broadcast television stations (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, CW & PBS) must switch the way they [...]
Braves Mike Hampton Pitching In Durham Wednesday
Just two days after baseball fans in the Triangle got to watch Tampa Bay Rays ace Scott Kazmir pitch a five-inning gem for the Bulls, another big league left-hander will lace up the cleats for a rehab assignment in the Bull City.
Atlanta Braves All-Star Mike Hampton, who hasn’t pitched since 2005 due to a series [...]

Winning Losers In Softball
THE BEST 1-2 TEAM OUT THERE…that’s what people are saying about the NBC17 softball team after losing 20-14 yesterday. That’s right…our one game winning streak is over! Perhaps we aren’t the best fielders and maybe we don’t keep our eye on the ball in the batters box, but we sure do have fun!
No exciting video this [...]
Little Rain, Big Drought Map Changes
In the past week the Raleigh-Durham Airport has only seen 0.44 inches of rain. That is in the time period from Tuesday, April 15 to Monday April 21. It is in that time that data is pulled to make the updated drought map released yesterday. Now, .44 inches of rain is not a lot…but there [...]
Can Dogs And Cats Get Along
I was sitting down to blog it up this morning with a few things on my mind, but the mischievous adventures of man’s best friend taking place right before me seemed much more entertaining.
Zoe the dog and Midnight the cat are good friends and have been for years…but every once in a while they like [...]
NBC17 Softball Wins, Penn Runs
Game two of the season for NBC17’s softball team, The Bad News Bears, went a little better than the first game. We limped away victorious, 7-6 against the team from 96Rock.
There were plenty of highlights in the game; well…maybe plenty isn’t the best word to use. Either way, the lowlights are always more fun to [...]
Monday’s Funnel Cloud In Durham
We received several calls Monday about a potential funnel cloud or tornado in Durham. We talked to some eyewitnesses to the event as did the National Weather Service and here are the results of what many of you saw.
THIS FUNNEL CLOUD WAS THE RESULT OF AN INTERESTING WEATHER PHENOMENA KNOWN AS A COLD AIR FUNNEL. THE [...]
All Hail Breaking Loose In Johnston County
There were more than a dozen severe thunderstorm warnings throughout central North Carolina this past Sunday. Most of what we saw was heavy rain, thunder and lightning and even some hail!
One of NBC17’s engineers, Tony Blackmon, captured this video of some hail falling in Johnston County, right around McGee’s Crossroads.
Weekend: Yard Work, Barbeque, Pull Airplane?
While most of you were tending to the yard or burning some meat on the grill this weekend…there were others who were pulling airplanes!? The 2008 Plane Pull to benefit Special Olympics North Carolina took place Saturday.
Here’s the deal…five-person teams competed to see who could pull an American Eagle jet the fastest. Each team had to pull [...]
