Riviera

Yet another restaurant that I have not been to, but one of my co-workers has. Check out the blog and picture from Jessica’s birthday bash and her review of Riviera.

My best-friend,
Regina, planned a very special birthday dinner for me this year. She made reservations at Riviera Restaurant and Bar in
Raleigh. Riviera, located in the fastest quickly developing part of downtown Raleigh, is a Mediterranean restaurant and bar specializing in the cuisines of Spain, France, and
Italy, with a unique twist. This wasn’t my first visit to
Riviera. I’ve been there for a happy hour here and there and have tried their appetizers.
I’ll admit I’ve never been to the restaurant or bar (which I’ve heard hosts international dance parties on occasion), but it doesn’t seem like one of the those places that require a reservation for a couple or small group.

I always have the pomme frittes (“fancy” for french fries). They serve two versions of tossed pomme frittes infused with garlic and a truffle aroma. This appetizer never fails. The bar offers a creative and extensive drink special menu with unique beverages like a strawberry balsamic martini.  For dinner I had the curried vegetables empanadas. I shared them, but could have easy eaten all four of the tasty turnovers myself. I also had the Romaine salad tossed with basil dressing, crispy chickpeas and a lavish cracker which offered more flavor than I could have anticipated. The portions are large enough for sharing with one other person, but not much more. I would recommend it to anyone looking to experiment with their palate in a euro-urban environment. I enjoyed the food and the scenery, but most of all having of my wonderful friends there to celebrate and share the meal with me.
