Southern Soul food in Fuquay Varina
I haven’t had a lot of time to eat out lately so when my co-worker Lisa mentioned she went out to eat at a great restaurant in Fuquay-Varina I told her she had to write a post for me. So here it is below!
Southern Soul Food in Fuqay-VarinaThere is nothing like good home cooking, is there? Every year as the holidays approach, my mouth tends to water just knowing that I’m going to get a chance for some of my daddy’s gourmet fare. But, that’s in
Massachusetts. Down here, it’s up to my husband and I to bring “home” the cookin’…and that’s not very often either, sad to say. So, what do we turn to? We have a neighborhood staple that we always go to but last night, I checked out the good home SOUTHERN cooking at Joyce & Family Restaurant & Catering in Fuquay-Varina (http://www.joyceandfamilyrestaurant.com/). Very tasty!
Joyce & Family specialize in southern soul food – chicken and dumplings, collard greens, macaroni & cheese. I opted for the home-made baked macaroni & cheese (with the crust on top), baked beans, sweet potatoes, and yes, even the collard greens…and I loved every bit of it that I ate. In fact, as I type, my mouth waters just thinking about how delicious everything was. Not a single dish was bland. The sweet potatoes nearly tasted like dessert, as a matter of fact!
As for the atmosphere, well, I wish I could tell you about the restaurant itself but I can’t. I kinda cheated last night. I was at a function in town where Joyce & Family were one of the caterers for the event. But, what I will say is the restaurant is located right in the heart of the little town of near some of the cutest little shops and not far from the Mineral Springs park either. The weather was perfect and it was great night to be there.
Fuquay-Varina, on the Fuquay side, right on
South Main Street
So, the next time you are in the mood for a Sunday drive, take a jaunt down to Fuquay-Varina. Park your car in one of several of the free public parking lots on
South Main and stroll through the shops in downtown. Then, when you are good and hungry, head on over for some real southern soul food at Joyce & Family Restaurant & Catering. You’ll want to cop a squat at
Mineral
Springs
Park afterwards for a nap. It’s worth the trip and oh so satisfying for the soul!
