LANCE is Pedaling Back! UPDATED
I bet there was a little more power on each turn of the pedals yesterday as avid cyclists rode with new vigor. That vigor, being the energy drawn from the fact that cancer survivor and seven time Tour De France winner, Lance Armstrong is pedaling back into the pro peloton next year. The story broke Monday afternoon on Velo News. Lance back with Johan.
WOW!!! That was my reaction when I heard the news. I had just gotten up from my afternoon siesta when the phone rang. My buddy on the line
said, ”Have you seen the news?” It was the last thing I expected but it was the best thing I could have heard. Lance coming back? The first thought by many might be… “Can he win an 8th Tour?” It would certainly be sweet and I will be cheering him on. But it won’t break my heart if he doesn’t. I will just be thrilled to see him pedaling again in the pro peloton.
This means so much not only to cancer survivors but to the sport of cycling, especially in the States. Lance will bring back that excitement that many of us felt in those seven Tours. He’ll bring back thousands of people to races especially to those in the States. I watched Lance race in his last Tour of Georgia. It was the only time I’ve seen him race in person. It was my birthday and I will never forget it! My wife and I, along with my 5 year old son, already have plans to see him ride once again. I want my son to see one of the greatest athletes in history and more importantly to see the man who has done so much for so many people.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
UPDATE:
So, the latest from cyclingnews.com is that Team Astana is of course denying any comeback by Lance to the team. So, it can either be a really bad rumor or as usual they don’t want to the news broken on someone else’s schedule and terms. The team, including Johan Bruyneel, will have a huge press conference and celebration with this kind of announcement. This is Lance Armstrong… he’ll certainly have some say on how this is done.
Then there’s another update from cyclingnews.com that media reports are growing.

PRIMAL ODYSSEY — One sweet trip indeed… and as I said in the update… I think Astana is just denying because they wouldn’t want someone else making their big announcement. This will be announced on Lance’s terms, I’m sure.
I heard the news and my hands started to shake. I looked above my desk to the poster of him crushing the Alpe d’Huez in 2004, reread his message and signature for the millionth time and started to do a happy dance.
I’ll certainly be riding that much stronger.
I hope that it’s true. He is a huge inspiration to me. I would like to meet him or even be lucky enough to see him race. It was his first win after he survived cancer that convinced me that I could ride again.
IAN — I right there with you!
JEFF — I’m answering you now knowing it is true as I have already posted Lance’s video. I’m so excited. This is so great and for all the right reasons.
Maybe you should make plans for the Tour of Georgia!

I was in the same boat as you… WOW! was the reaction, on further surfing the web it looks the the rumors may just be that! Then again is Astana & others watering down the news. I’d love to see Lance at the 2009 Tour, I’d be at the ‘09 Tour and this would make the trip from Oz… one sweet trip indeed.
