Great Saturday Group Ride…

0802080726.jpgI started out this morning looking to do a longer ride and I was solo. But just as I was headed out of my subdivision I saw a cyclist go by.

Great, I thought, there’s my rabbit. Here’s a picture… he’s (Daryl) right up the road. I thought… I can warm up and maybe catch him. Who knows, maybe he’ll be riding my route too and I’ll have some company. Turns out he was headed to meet some others guys for a group ride. Daryl asked me to come along and I decided to go.

Strong guys… but I kept up. They introduced me to a new route that was really nice. Good roads, hardly any cars and some pretty good hills. I was familiar with some of the area… just not 0802081056.jpgthe route. It’s the course for the North Carolina Bicycling Club’s Summer Rally Ride.  I ended up with 72 miles and an average of a little over 19mph.

So here’s my shout out to Chris, Daryl and Gabe (left to right in the picture). Thanks guys! I hope to ride along again sometime soon. I also hope you all enjoyed that cold beer when you got home!

What a great ride with some great guys. There’s nothing like having a spur of the moment group ride.

IAN– Sure thing. I hope to hook up with them again soon.

unscheduled anything sometimes work out the very best! Glad you had a sweet ride.

Thanks for the words of encouragement Donald, I might take you up on some info as I start training for my “little” tri….

LAUREL — YEAH… being spontaneous makes life fun. Cool… and as it’s said in the south, “Give us a hollar… anytime!” Keep up the good training.

That’s very cool that you were able to find some new guys to ride with!! I’m glad that you had a great ride with them.

Don,
I was great riding with you and the others Saturday morning.

Nice pull down 64 going over the lake…. It seems that our friend, “Big Legs Johnny”, thought he would stir things up a bit. I don’t think he expected me to be right there with him at the stop light.

Hope to see you out there again soon. Keep us all informed of the charity rides that you have planned. We have a fairly large group that would likely be up for a good challenge. We typically do as many of the charity rides as we can individually. The Tour de Lions in Ashboro (beginning of May) is one that we all try to attend in mass.

JEFF — Yes… good strength and it’ll keep me on my toes… or I should say mashing the pedals!

GABE — Yeah… It was great meeting up with you guys. I’m really glad I decided to ride along. That pull has me resting my right quad for about 4 days now. I think I should stay off the bike at least that long…. a little icing… stretching and rest will do me good. You were right there with Johnny… NICE SPRINT… uphill! Sounds good on the charity rides. I’ll keep you posted.

Sounds like a good ride. It is always good to meet new people out there.

CHRIS– It’s also a good oportunity to see where you stand with other strong cyclists. I’m usually riding 90% of the time by myself… so I’m left wondering sometimes where I stand with the fitness of other cyclists. This is a good group with which I can improve my strength.

Rabbits … seek them out all the time. :-) It’s also great to get to know new routes and definitely agree that it is very motivating to ride with strong people and learn from them and push this little bit harder than you possibly would have if you would have ridden solo.
