Thank heavens for Girl Scouts cookies

girlscoutwcookie.jpgtimeforgscookies.jpg‘Tis the season for Girl Scout cookies! I was at Harris Teeter Sunday and who do I see? A friendly group of Girl Scouts setting up boxes upon boxes of yummy cookies outside. Who can resist? Of course I took some home with me! Area Girl Scouts will sell cookies through March 16th to raise money for group and council activities, camping scholarships and volunteer training.

cookie.jpgMy favorite cookie is the plain old shortbread cookie. I noticed that some of the cookies’ names have changed and it looked like they even offered the oh-so-popular 100 calorie packs this year! All boxes sell for 3.50 a piece. Enjoy!

Yep, it’s for a good cause. BUT (and that’s the problem!) I can’t eat just one Thin Mint - and, I might as well just paste it on my hips - cause that’s where it goes once it enters my mouth!

Last year I accidently ordered 8 more boxes then I thought I had ordered (temporary insanity). I gave them all to my Dad. This year I’ve given them up for Lent.

For those of you worried about the health risks of eating too many cookies…Over the past couple of years, the Girl Scouts have actually tinkered with their cookie recipes to offer sugar-free, trans-fat free and reduced fat cookie options to their health conscious buyers! The cookies certainly aren’t to be replaced for your normal daily serving of fruits and vegetables, but you can be confident that you have a healthier choice for indulgence while benefiting a good organization.

I will go with the mint…. yum yum yum. Calories…. whatever.
They taste good! And I am doing a good deed. The good outways the bad!

This year I noticed you could opt to send cookies directly to our troops. This let the girls learn how to sell, kept me from eating what I didn’t really need, and gave some folks overseas a little bit of home to savor.

Next year be sure to ask for delivery options to support troops. Good for the waistline… good for morale…
