All we need is love
Sweetheart or no sweetheart, there is no way of escaping the undue stress and pressures of Valentine’s Day. Hyped up to sell greeting cards, chocolates and overpriced
long-stem roses,Valentine’s Day has turned into the most expensive holiday in the U.S. next to Christmas. If you’re single, you may dread Valentine’s Day because you
don’t have a date or aren’t in a relationship with someone
special. If you’re dating someone, you may stress out trying to find the
“perfect” meaningful gift. Although the greeting card, floral and diamond industry would have you believe that you’re the only unloved person on the planet, nothing could be further from the truth. Here are some alternative ways you can celebrate (or not…):
- Show appreciation for those close to you - We should use Valentine’s Day to express our love and gratitude for the people around us. Friends, siblings, parents, grandparents, extended family, teachers will appreciate the gesture.
- Love your community - If you have some free time on Valentine’s Day, why not volunteer in your community? Whether you’re helping the homeless at a soup kitchen, reading to children, visiting with the elderly or walking dogs at a rescue shelter. For those living in the Chapel Hill area, Orange County Animal Services is hosting an all day Valentine’s Day celebration where they will offer refreshments, door prizes and the opportunity to take unconditional love home with you. Sharing your love will definitely bring love back to you.
- Retail therapy - When Valentines rolls around there are, generally, a lot of sales. Some shopping centers offer special holiday sales. CouponChief.com is an online source for deals and steals if you’re trying to find that perfect gift for yourself or your loved ones.
- Practice your cooking skills - You can make a meal at home or bake for loved ones.

- Date Yourself - If you lived in Raleigh, you can enjoy a free carriage ride, courtesy of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, through the downtown area. Treat yourself to a massage at your favorite spa, order a Netflix movie and dinner in.
