Watermelon Selection
On a summer day I love a good slice of watermelon and how it can quench your thirst and hunger. I used to think that watermelon wasn’t a healthy fruit because it had a lot of sugar. Well now I realize that is a healthy fruit with liposyne. So I love eating watermelon guilt free.
But, I always find it daunting to select a whole watermelon. Since I have been buying a lot of them, I have asked around and have gotten some tips.
Besides checking the skin for bruises, cuts or dents; I have learned that you should check the yellow underside. The bigger and more clearly defined it is, the longer the watermelon has been on the ground and on the vine ripening. Ripe = Sweet
I also knock the melon, and I have been told it should feel “heavy” since it is about 92% water.
Most of the watermelons I have bought this summer have been sweet and fresh. I have one waiting for me to cut today. Juicy!
