Obama Overtakes Clinton On Superdelegate Count
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Barack Obama picked up four more superdelegates Monday, the Associated Press reports, which puts him in the lead over Hillary Clinton.
Sen. Daniel Akaka of Hawaii and Rep. Tom Allen of Maine endorsed Obama Monday, along with Idaho Democratic Chairman Keith Roark and Dolly Strazar, a member of the Democratic National Committee from Hawaii.
Obama’s lead is slim –281 to her 271.5.
Both candidates are now in West Virginia, which holds a primary Tuesday. Clinton is expected to take that state, but the AP reports that her campaign is showing signs that it is not as confident as it once was. Since her loss here in North Carolina, she has “eased off her pointed jabs at Obama,” the AP said and she now pledges to support the Democratic nominee “no matter what happens.”
Meanwhile, Obama is courting Florida and Michigan, states that have been ignored after they violated national party rules with early primaries. He will tour five states this week, including South Dakota and Oregon, which have primaries, but he is also stopping in states that will be a big influence on the general election.
