Hagan declines debate, leaving Senate race with no forum on TV
RALEIGH, N.C. - Kay Hagan, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate, now says she won’t take part in a televised debate — the only one she had considered.
The AP reports that hHer main opponent, Jim Neal, said Friday Hagan is avoiding a discussion of the issues. Neal and Hagan are leading the Democratic race, but have only participated in one radio debate
According to Hagan’s campaign, Hagan didn’t want to attend the TV debate because the station was not inviting all five candidates. WTVD planned to limit the debate to those who had at least 10 percent support in a recent poll.
The other Democrats are Lexington trucker Duskin Lassiter, Lumberton attorney Marcus Williams and Moncure podiatrist Howard Staley.
