will-smith.jpgTwo new major films take to the screen this weekend - Hancock starring Will Smith and Kit Kitredge: An American Girl starring an all-star cast of many.

Hancock has an interesting twist to it.  It’s a story about a…get this…alcoholic super hero.  Is that an oxymoron or what?  The thought perplexes me so much that it’s the storyline that’s peaked my interest…well that and the fact that Will Smith stars in it.  Most Smith movies are really very good and he has a track record for movies released around holidays so I’m sure it will get the draw that is expected.

Kittredge on the other hand is the polar opposite - a fun family movie based on the popular American Girl children’s book series.  Executive Produced by Julia Roberts and her sister, Marisa Yeres, and starring the likes of Stanley Tucci, Jane Krakowski, Julia Ormond, Joan Cusack, Chris O’Donnell, and Abigail Breslin in the title role, this movie should prove as a hit with families over the holiday weekend.

Are there any movies you’re planning to see?  I hear the humidity is on its way back.  Might be a good time to take in a flick!

Maybe I’ll see YOU at the movies,

Lisa :)

Cannes and Jolie

The 61st annual Cannes Film Festival is currently underway in the French Riviera.  This morning Natalie Morales, Today Show Correspondent, showcased an interview she had with two of the stars of the new Dreamworks animated film, Ku Fu Panda, Jack Black and Angelina Jolie.  Jolie admitted during the interview that she is, in fact, expecting twins with significant other, Brad Pitt.  Check out the video from the interview -

Congratulations to the Jolie/Pitt family!

Check the links above for more info on the Cannes Film Festival.  Panda is set to be released June 6th.  Look for it in a theater near you!

Until next time, see YOU at the movies!

No, it’s not “my two front teeth” (Well, maybe they need to be straightened or something.  :) ).  My favorite movie from the summer just came out on DVD yesterday - The Bourne Ultimatum starring People’s SEXIEST Man Alive for 2007, Matt Damon.  If you are a follower of the Bourne series,  you were probably one of the fans that eagerly anticipated the release of the film.  I know I was….and it didn’t disappoint either!  It’s chock full of action, drama, and some kick-butt fight scenes too.  (Santa, I have been good.  I really have.  Can I please have the DVD of Ultimatum for Christmas?)

There’s also a collection of Christmas Television Favorites that has been released.  The collection includes such classics as “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”, and many others.  You can get the video at Wal-Mart as well as other department stores and video stores everywhere.  (Santa, I can I have that too!)

One more that I wouldn’t mind if Santa brought to me - Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, also released this past summer and a HUGE hit!  I enjoyed that one more than the second installment in the series.  (Please, Santa, only one more….)

Happy Holiday shopping!  Until next time -

See YOU at the movies!

Opening 12/7…

…in WIDE release - The Golden Compass with Nicole Kidman and Daniel CraigCompass is alternate world meets reality with souls that manifest themselves into animals alongside a 12 year-old girl who tries to save her friend and ends up on her way to saving our world as well.  The movie also stars such Hollywood heavyweights as Sam Elliot, Ian McKellan, Kathy Bates, Kristin Scott Thomas, and young star Dakota Blue Richards.

Compass comes with some controversy.  There’s even an email blast circulating telling its receipients not to see it.  If you ask me why, I can’t tell you because I inadvertently deleted the email.  :( However, I would venture to say that it has an underlying negativity about it…or perhaps it has to do with the reviews of sloppy storytelling in favor of special effects?  This isn’t the kind of movie that I care to see BUT because of the mixed reviews, I just might have to go and see for myself.  I’ll let you know what my thoughts are.  I promise!

Until next time, see YOU at the movies!

Enchanted - Truly It Is

EnchantedI just spent two hours in a total fantasy world…and I loved it! I have not laughed nor smiled that “goofy” smile (in complete darkness with no one looking either) nor walked away from a movie with that “Boy! Do I feel good!!” feeling in a very long time. This movie gave me all that.

Walt Disney’s Enchanted truly was enchanting. It’s easy to see why it’s the #1 movie in America. Enchanted directed by Disney Animator, Director, Producer, and writer, Kevin Lima (Aladdin, Tarzan) brings classic fairytale to modern day New York in a story about…what else…true love. The movie stars Amy Adams as Princess Gizelle, who is suddenly thrown out of her life in fairytale land to the unknown world of New York City by evil queen Narisa, played devilishly by Susan Sarandon. In New York, Gizelle stumbles (well, actually falls) upon a well-intentioned lawyer (Patrick Dempsey) who eventually helps her discover the true meaning of love all the while her Prince-to-be, Edward (James Marsden), is looking for her. Which man captures her heart? You’ll have to go see the movie!

I’m still smiling. :) This movie may even be up for an Oscar or two (my prediction - in costuming and animation) as well. Whether it is nominated or not (or even wins) doesn’t matter. Enchanted, like Gone Baby Gone, is worth every penny…at least it is in my book. I give it -

I really do! Enchanted is the “feel good” movie of the 2007 holiday season. If you’re feeling stressed, tired of shopping, and hopping from one holiday party to another, take 2 hours out of your day and go see this film. It’ll put you right back into the holiday spirit!

Until next time, see YOU at the movies!
