Producer-Director-Actor Sydney Pollack Succumbs to Cancer
Well…I’m sad. Not heart-broken, just sad. I liked Sydney Pollack. As a top-notch Hollywood everything, he will be missed!
Pollack directed such classics as The Way We Were, Tootsie, Out of Africa (of which he won for Best Director and Best Picture in 1985), to name a few. He produced 47 films throughout his career (including Tootsie and Out of Africa) and starred in over 30 Hollywood and made-for-TV films as well. His most recent production and acting credits combined were for the 2007 Oscar-winning film, Michael Clayton of which I reviewed here.
Sydney was a staple in Hollywood circles. Wherever you were to find Sydney, a nomination and/or an award was sure to follow. His success spoke volumes. His artistry just as much.
Sydney passes away just two short months after his business partner, friend, and Oscar-winning Director (for The English Patient), Anthony Minghella, also succumbed to Cancer. This leaves a bit of a quandry for his business, Mirage Enterprises. There is talk that Pollack’s daughter, Rebecca, might take over. Until then, the films that were in production are now on hold. (See Hollywood.com’s article on Pollack’s passing for more.)
All business aside, Hollywood won’t be the same without the incomparable Sydney Pollack. May he Rest In Peace.
Until next time, see YOU at the movies ~
Lisa
