Green Your Fitness Routine

Date: 03/28/2008 | Contributor: ebustamante

Fitness enthusiasts can make their daily exercise routines greener by taking it outside. Green Living Ideas suggests to take your workout outside instead of a gym. A walk or hike through the mountains makes for a great workout, plus it gets you in touch with the outside world. One tidbit found on Green Living is to substitute your routine with yard work. Yard work may be tedious, but did you know pruning trees and pulling weeds can have as much benefit as a dumbbell routine? For more ways to green your workout, click here.

Neighbors Say NIMBY To Windmills

Date: 02/07/2008 | Contributor: NBC17

080207_wind.jpgRALEIGH, N.C. — A couple that wants to build three electricity-generating wind turbines in rural North Carolina is facing opposition from neighbors.

The neighbors say the windmills would create noise and disrupt the scenery of their coastal community.

Nelson and Dianna Paul of Raleigh have asked the North Carolina Utilities Commission for permission to build the Golden Wind Farm on 33-acres in Bettie, a town about seven miles northeast of Beaufort. It would be the largest wind farm in the state.

Nelson Paul told commissioners the turbines would generate 4.5 megawatts of electricity, enough to power about 900 homes. The couple wants to sell the power to Progress Energy as a source of green energy.

Some residents say the towers would spoil their property. The towers could be 460 feet tall.

Going Green: Facts and Myths

Date: 02/01/2008 | Contributor: kstepneski

Hear me when I say I’m all about making the world a safer and cleaner place to live.  I recycle and I conserve, but I can’t help wonder if this “going green” is just the latest trend.  Celebrities promote it everyday, or so it seems.  Whether it’s about driving a hybrid or wearing clothing made from real organic material, you have to wonder if it’s all real?  In fact, it’s a myth that hybrid cars are more green than regular cars.  Read for yourself.  In fact there are quite a few myths about living the green life.  Extending Daylight Saving Time to conserve enrgy?  What about the air conditioning that will have to run longer?  I believe global warming does exist, and I think we should all do our part to help save the planet we live on, but I also think people need to understand what it really means to ”go green.”
