Go Green Toner Cartridges

An Oregon-based firm called Office Support systems has introduced a green ink cartridge. According to its website, for every cartridge purchased, up to $1 will be donated to American Forests. Then American Forests plants a tree for every dollar received.

Besides the dollar donation to tree planting, the company encourages its customers to recycle used cartridges. They have a system set up that will apply a credit to consumers that return a cartridge. A pre-paid FedEx label comes with every cartridge to make it easy for one to return. For more information on Go Green Brand Ink Cartridges, click here.

This sounds like a pretty good thing. I have trouble maintaining any kind of recycling program at work. They manage to get a tree planted every time they sell a cartridge, and they send me a label to ship the empty back? That’s pretty good.

I find that this company is misleading because they are stating that they have a “green” cartridge when actually they are selling a normal cartridge and encouraging you to recycle it. By stating the the cartridge is green would mean that it is made out of a green item or the manufacturing is less harmful to the environment.
I work for a company that does the same process and we encourage our customers to “think green” and find ways to reduce, reuse and recycle but we in no way make false claims.
