My most vivid memory of the first oil shock(1973-74) is riding my bike to the bus stop(half a mile away) in total darkness, because President Nixon put America on full-time Daylight Savings Time starting in January of 74. Not sure if it really saved any energy or not. I certainly burned up lots of energy cursing the darkness on my bike!
Re today's energy issues: it would be much easier if we would simply allow ourselves to drill for our own oil. There's plenty of it, but we let the enviro-weenies prevent us from getting it.
