Spaced Out…

Don’t worry about that flaming bus-sized satellite from space….

Oh—the satellite is still falling—but it seems it’s not quite as huge as first reported….

A couple of posts back, we told you about that secret spy satellite that the military was worried about.. Seems they’d lost control of it—and it was going to plummet uncontrollably to earth—somewhere…

As you can read here in this lengthy article— the satellite is NOW said to be about 15 feet long and 8 feet wide.

It was actually launched in secret about a year ago—and controllers knew then it had failed and they’d have a “major space debris incident” down the road.

Although most of the satellite will probably burn up in the atmosphere, experts predict “several tens of pounds” of material from the craft could reach the ground—and that the orbit “overflies all of the world’s most populated areas.”

And some of that debris could contain hazardous material.

In addition to worrying about whether the material might hurt us physically—there’ also a fear it may hurt us militarily…Some experts worry  the debris could reveal national security secrets if it lands in the wrong spot…

Here’s hoping it hits the ocean somewhere…

IRAN FROM THIS MISSLE TOO….

And speaking of worries from above…

It seems Iran has opened a space center—and launched a rocket it says can carry its own satellite into space.

You can read here how Iran’s president has called their space program “a giant step towards serving mankind.”

The county has named it’s first satellite “Hope.”

I don’t know exactly what Iran plans to do with its space program—but I  HOPE   the  GIANT STEP TOWARDS SERVING MANKIND  is closer to  the “one giant step for mankind” Neil Armstrong referred to when he took his first steps on the Moon than it is to The Twilight Zone’s aliens who came here with their special book they said would help them  ”serve mankind.”
