Do The Right Thing….

It took the Veterans Disability Benefits Commission 2 and a half years of study to figure out that we need to substantially increase payments to members of our armed services who are hurt while serving out country…
Now—Congress is debating the issue…
What’s to debate???
I don’t care where you stand on the war… And in fact—it’s irrelevant to this discussion.
Every person serving in our military right now is doing so under their own free will. They weren’t drafted… They went willingly.
They are our sons and daughters—fathers and mothers. And they are being treated poorly the people who ask them to do the dirty work of protecting us.
Take a look at this video. It shows a soldier demonstrating how he’s learned how to make his new artificial arm move any way he wants.
The circumstances of how he lost his arm aren’t made clear in the video… But the point is—it doesn’t matter if it happened in combat or state-side…He’s one of thousands of soldiers who’ve had a life changing thing happen to them while serving.
The LEAST we can do is to make sure they are treated fairly. It’s the RIGHT thing
The commission wrote in part:
The Defense and Veterans Affairs Departments fall woefully short in providing adequate mental health care as well as timely and FAIR (italics mine) disability payments …
The commission recommends boosting veterans benefits by 25 per cent immediately.
The chairman of the senate’s veterans affairs committee says of the recommendations that “many of the changes may prove costly.”
But what is the cost of doing nothing?
It’s way too expensive to even contemplate.
