“The hideousness of that foot will haunt my dreams forever.” ~John Turturro as Emilio Lopez in Mr. Deeds (2002)
That is the line Marc gave me upon looking at my foot, one week after being viciously ravaged by fire ants. Rest in peace, little buddies. You got me pretty good, and trust me, your suffering was much shorter lived.
And closer up:
A scene near my car seemed intriguing, so I (accidentally) stepped through a Den of Human Devastation and Fire Ant Fury… all to take this picture:
A week later, I can say the picture was so not worth it. I could have checked that intrigue at the door because I think I’m the only one finding this lonely jug of Simply Green thought-provoking.
I hope my gross foot doesn’t haunt your dreams forever too, though I have no doubts that the fierocity of itching and pain will haunt me… for at least a few more nights.
I just wanted to drop off some AWESOME Saturday greenery for those of you in Hillsborough, Durham (Parkwood) or Orange County at all!
NEW Farmers Market Openings, Flea Market Awesomeness and a Rockstar Green Tour ~ oh my!
Hence, you better hit up Orange and Durham Counties this Saturday!

It’s a little anti-climatic though in the sense that, like Valentine’s Day or 9-11, it’s a little bogus to have it shoved in our faces and for each of us to feel super (romantic/patriotic/) eco-minded if it’s only going to be for the one day.
For that reason, I say in lower-case “happy Earth day”. And to further sound like a hippy, let’s toast to a “Happy Earth Day!!” some time next week… and sometime in June… and just because, sometime in September… you know?
Apologies… this is the cynic in me talking.
OK. I’m smiling again… now, let’s have that toast and then you can remind me that more and more people celebrate the Earth year-round, and the movement/evolution is only getting sweeter and bigger all the time.
Cheers!
Did anyone see that AMAZING freak weather on Sunday night??? Here’s a pic, and I’ll post more tomorrow, along with some video. Check in to see it ~ TRUST me. It was so beautiful and bizarre:
Crazy crazy crazy cool… and a complete fluke Marc and I saw it at all. Stay tuned.
Tomorrow, the Triangle has a plethora of events regarding sustainability, nature and biking. Check out the Annual Footprints Conference in Durham, the Comprehensive Bike Plan meeting in Raleigh or Eleni’s (amazing) documentary, Seeing Through the Fence (second screening, by popular demand) at Duke. Details are (from my inbox to yours):

2008 Annual Fuqua Footprints Conference: “Market-Based Approaches to Global Challenges” When: Wednesday, April 2, 9:30am - 5:00pm Where:Fuqua School of Business (driving directions)
Audience:Duke students, faculty, staff, and the public
Footprints 2008 examines the ways we can harness market forces to achieve positive, sustainable change as well as exposes the dangers inherent when a new set of players enter spaces formerly inhabited primarily by NGOs and nonprofits. What will change now that institutional investors can make significant returns on green investments, global financial institutions see opportunity in banking the world’s poor and multinational corporations are marketing their “causes” to achieve competitive differentiation?
This will be a day of interactive workshops, thought-provoking debates, engaging speakers, and panel discussions on how to integrate professionals – no matter their field – into the social fabric of our society, both professionally and personally. Afternoon keynote address: Gary Hirshberg, CEO Stonyfield Farm and author of Stirring It Up: How to Make Money and Save the World.
The City of Raleigh is developing a Comprehensive Bicycle Plan that will guide future bicycle improvements in
Raleigh and we want YOU to be part of the process.
The plan is intended to reflect the needs and wishes of the community; therefore, the City is asking for your input:the first public workshop will be held on April 2nd, 2008 at the
Glen Eden Pilot Neighborhood Center (1500 Glen Eden Drive, Raleigh). Please stop by anytime between 4:00 – 7:00 PM to learn more about the project, talk to City staff and project consultants, and provide your input to the process. The City wants to hear the citizens’ priorities for bicycle facilities and programs. Please feel free to distribute this so that all Raleigh citizens are informed.
In addition, please take a few minutes to fill out an online comment form for the project.
Please pass the word along to any and all cyclists in the Raleigh Area!
Thank you for your time. Happy and safe bicycling!

I have disappeared, or so it seemed, but after talking to some AMAZING Sustainablers here in the Triangle (as well as my gal Ginny) and having an amazing three-dayer in Chesapeake, VA, I’m taking a new approach to this blog and pumped about my refocusing.
To kick off this renewal, I have a different sort of post. I was tagged by my inspired life designer, Lise (beauty, living, sustainability… all rolled together). This post is me, reintroducing myself to you.
And here are the tag rules:
1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
For anyone paying attention to my blog ~ sincere apologies for the level of crazy I have exhibited for the last week. Last Friday, I realized I had some sort of glitch. The subsequent changes have been a roller coaster of changes ~ and we’re not sure which ones will stick. I may even go back to the old template ~ but I’m not sure.
Give me a few days, and hopefully by this time next week, everything will be solid again.
Until then, I’m trying to re-post my pics, my posts and my blogroll (which I lost entirely) correctly.
The lesson I learned ~ screenshot and backup… and no matter what, don’t panic. It could always be worse.
